Got Mice?

Got mice? or evidence? Wondering how to handle it? In Tennessee it is not uncommon to have mice get into your home. There are many ways to deal with it. Glue traps, snap traps, bait, ignore and hope it will go away (not recommended), moth balls, or plug ins with high pitch beeping noises. After a short story, I will tell you the best solution to use if your house is on the market.

I personally have a high fear of these little nasty creatures. I know that they are small and are not going to hurt me. That doesn’t mean I am not terrified that they might come to close and actually touch me or put their funky claws or teeth on me. I actually had one leap at me from a trash can a few years ago, so I believe it is a legitimate fear. Anyhow, the other night Aaron and I were under the house in the crawl space(ours is tall enough to stand in) doing some plumbing work. I saw a large mouse crawl across the room. So, I told Aaron I would no longer be going down there by myself for sure and it was debatable that I would go at all. So while we were at Lowes, my favorite store, we saw some rat and mouse bait guaranteed to kill them.

That was what I wanted, to not worry about them living under my house again. No one said that they eat it and then crawl up in your walls and die! That is what they do though. We realized yesterday when a foul odor showed up in the dining room and there was no other explanation. I looked in some forums online to decide how to deal with this stinky issue, and all I found was to wait it out. It will take 3-14 days depending on the size of the mouse for the smell to go away. That is a big span if you ask me. I brought out all my good smelling candles and have them burning.

If your house is on the market and you see some evidence of mice, I recommend the plug ins and a snap trap. Just put the snap trap in a location that won’t be seen by prospective buyers. I would not waste money on bait and have your house stinking for up to two weeks. That is a sure way to turn buyers off. I also have heard that glue traps are only good if you have little bitty mice. Once they get a little bigger they are too strong and can get away. Moth balls work pretty well, but stink almost as bad as a dead mouse. I would not recommend them if your house is on the market. Funky smells are never inviting to buyers. Ignoring the signs will only worsen the problem. The multiply rapidly. I hope you find this plethora of mice knowledge helpful.
